Pack for mobility
Loose clothing, easy shoes and a light bag matter more than vacation outfits. Ask whether the provider supplies a walker or other mobility aid.
Do not create a suitcase you cannot manage on the return trip.
Prepare the airport plan
Request wheelchair assistance when long-distance walking will be unrealistic. DOT guidance supports prompt disability-related assistance on covered flights.
A simple itinerary is usually easier than a tight connection.
Keep essentials in hand luggage
Carry medication, prescriptions, important records and necessary assistive items with you. Do not check the only copy of your discharge information.
Leave room for supplies or mobility equipment acquired during the trip.
Questions worth answering
- Will the provider supply a walker?
- Should I request airport wheelchair assistance?
- Which records stay in carry-on?
- What clothing works with the surgical site?
- What luggage can I realistically handle?
Need help planning the medical trip?
Email or WhatsApp is enough. Everything else is optional.
